Sarah’s Cookie Jar… sharing our family treasure with the world.
Maureen, the owner of Sarah’s Cookie Jar, received her bachelor’s degree in business management from Virginia Tech in 2002. After that, she immersed herself in the world of catering and event planning for 15 years in North Carolina.
She loved the work, but the late-night hours were getting to be overwhelming, and she was ready for a different direction and adventure.
She traveled briefly with her rescue dog, Cora, and found new inspiration. She discovered great fulfillment working with children and now has seven years of experience under her belt between private Nannying and teaching at a local preschool and she was happy with this shift in focus.
However, she has always wanted to go into business for herself and she comes from a descending line of entrepreneurs. She recalled memories of enjoying baking as a child and watching her maternal Grandmother in the kitchen making all sorts of creations with her magic hands.
Maureen thought about her mother’s famous cookies she sold in Virginia at her aunt and uncle’s deli when she and her siblings were growing up. That same aunt, now with her own successful biscotti business in New York, asked if she ever considered carrying on the tradition. After much deliberation and conversation she asked Sarah, her mom, if she would teach her the recipe and support her on this fresh journey. She agreed and dedicated a lot of loving time and devotion to help her get them just right. And now it’s finally time to share their family treasure with the world.
Maureen has been married to her husband, Wes, since January of 2022, and together, they share two chocolate labs, Maggie Mae and Daisy Mae. You may see him from time to time as Maureen’s enthusiastic sales guru and also assisting with deliveries.
They currently own a house in Hampstead and are looking for their forever home in historic downtown Wilmington.
Sarah’s Cookie Jar cookies are sold at farmer’s markets, coffee shops, and restaurants.
